Big Congratulations to Sona Davis who successfully defended her Anthropology Honors Thesis, entitled “Investigating the role of the BAF complex in human disease and evolution.” Her work took our lab’s study of chromatin remodeling in a new direction by comparing BAF subunit genes in modern humans, Neanderthals, and non-human primates. She found several genetic variants between these species that are predicted to alter the function of subunits in the BAF chromatin remodeling complex, and may play a role in the phenotypic differences between these species! She earned “Highest Honors” from her committee. Great job, Sona!
